Heat Flourish At Spring Challenge

The Brisbane Heat have won their second game of the T20 Spring Challenge to put themselves in a strong position to qualify for the Finals of the pre-season WBBL competition this weekend.

After losing a thriller on Saturday night against the Sydney Sixers, the Heat made their way to the comfortingly named Allan Border Oval at Mossman this morning to take on the undefeated ACT Meteors for their third game in  the competition, which is providing warm-up competition matches ahead of the Weber Women's Big Bash League that gets underway on Sunday 27 October.

Allrounder Sianna Ginger led the way for the Heat, snapping up 3-14 after taking a wicket in the first over with the new ball after the Meteors won the toss and batted.

The ACT was dismissed for 93 in 16.1 overs, with left-armer Lucy Hamilton (2-5) and Nic Hancock (2-14) both impressive with the ball.

First-year Heat signing Mikayla Wrigley, standing in as opener and keeper for a rested Georgia Redmayne, top-scored with 32 not out as she combined with captain Charli Knott (21) and Laura Harris (17) to send Brisbane to another run-rate boosting win as they chased down the target in 12.2 overs to finish 3-94.

Brisbane now travel to Adelaide to play the Strikers at Karen Rolton Oval on Wednesday morning.

The Heat's final over loss to the Sixers at North Sydney Oval featured Ginger claiming 2-27 from four overs as the home side made 5-147.

Brisbane chased hard, with Redmayne getting the pursuit away in style on the way to 41 from 35 balls. Wrigley (25) and Hancock (21) took the Heat challenge deep, but Brisbane was unable to scramble the final runs in the last over to lose by three.

The semi-finals will be held on Saturday with the Final on Sunday, with all games in Sydney.
