HEAT SET FOR PERTH TRIP | Banton, Johnson Named

English international Tom Banton has been named to take his place in the Brisbane Heat squad for their Boxing Day KFC Big Bash League clash with the Perth Scorchers in Perth.

Banton, who arrived on Saturday night, had hoped to play in Sunday night's match against the Adelaide Strikers at the Gabba before jet lag took its toll.

The top order bat is replacing fellow Englishman Tom Alsop while he recovers from a quad injury.

Banton will be with the Heat until January 6, before taking up his contract with the ILT20 in Dubai.

Alsop hopes to make his return from injury with the Heat after that date.

Australian left-arm pace bowler Spencer Johnson returns from a toe injury that forced him out of the first two Heat matches and is line to play his first match of BBL|14.

Fellow quick Michael Neser (hamstring) continues to build towards a playing return later in the BBL.

Local Replacement Players Tom Straker and Tom Whitney drop out of the Heat squad as does allrounder Jack Wildermuth for the trip to Perth tomorrow.

The match will be broadcast live on Channel 7 and Foxtel, and streamed on 7 Plus and Kayo Sport. It will be covered on ABC Radio and SEN.

The Heat's win over the Strikers at the Gabba was the highest rating match in the past two seasons outside of last year's BBL Final featuring the Heat and the Sydney Strikers.

The crowd of 23,681 was the biggest opening night attendance in five years for the Heat.

The Heat are back in action at the Gabba on 29 December against the Sydney Sixers before hosting the Melbourne Stars in the third New Year’s Bash at the Gabba: ‘The New Year’s Bash supporting the KFC Youth Foundation’.
