SYNOPSIS
The Big Bash – Australia Cricket’s bold move to inspire and attract a whole new audience was a monster hit with fans when launched 13 years ago. And amidst the global T20 hype, the Brisbane Heat have flourished to be among the new wave of Australia’s largest sporting clubs. With millions of fans and a record number of social media followers, this “team in teal” seems like the real deal… but their big reputation masks an even bigger problem. Despite their massive off-field fanbase, the Brisbane Heat haven’t won a Big Bash League trophy in over a decade, finding new and embarrassing ways to lose.
At the end of their eleventh Big Bash season, things have hit rock bottom. Not only do they stumble into second last place on the league table, but their loyal fanbase, and Big Bash fans across the country, are about to confront the shocking reality of losing an iconic element of the club in the biggest shake-up in the competition’s history.
The future looks bleak to even the most ardent supporter as the bright promise of the team in teal dims into uncertainty.
What fans don’t know is that a new-look Brisbane Heat is on the horizon, and they just might hold the key to reignite the cub. Along with some homecoming heroes, the Heat are joined by raw, unfamiliar faces united in their desire to prove themselves on the biggest stage available.
Off the field, these aspiring athletes are husbands, dads, greenskeepers, and batmakers, all united by a common love for the game and a relentless desire to change the Heat’s fortune.
Over the next two seasons, these “nobodies” will face the league’s strongest teams while supporting each other through mental health struggles and attacks from detractors. Together, they’ll transform not only the culture of the club but also their lives, as the dream of holding the BBL trophy becomes closer than ever.
