Young Quick Joins Heat Squad

Australian Under-19 pace bowler Callum Vidler will add some BBL polish to his promising reputation after being named today as a Local Replacement Player for the Brisbane Heat

Vidler, 18, will use the next few weeks with the Heat as part of his build-up to the ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa next month.

The Valley paceman completed school last month and is one of four Queenslanders named in the World Cup squad alongside club teammate Hugh Weibgen, Gold Coast wicket-keeper Lachlan Aitken and Western Suburbs batsman Tom Campbell.

Vidler’s signing was approved by the BBL Technical Committee, and he will travel to Melbourne today as part of a 15-player squad for the clash with the Melbourne Renegades at Marvel Stadium tomorrow night.

Under the BBL rules, he must be named in the final 12 for the game at the bat flip.

Brisbane batters Matthew Renshaw and Josh Brown have overcome minor fitness concerns from last week’s win over the Sydney Thunder to take their place in the squad, with both training without incident at the team's past two training sessions.

Tomorrow night’s game starts at 6.15pm Qld time with free to air TV coverage on Channel 7 as well broadcasting on FOX Cricket and streaming on Kayo.
