HEAT NAB TALL PAUL | BBL Draft Delivers

The Brisbane Heat has retained another member of its BBL championship squad with towering allrounder Paul Walter joining Colin Munro as the club’s big takeaways from the Player Draft today in Melbourne.

The Heat also snapped up promising English left-hander Tom Alsop in the final round, with the Sussex player producing a strong showing for the Trent Rockets in The Hundred with a blazing half century on debut recently.

All three International recruits are available for the full BBL season, including Finals.

Alsop, 28, is a former England U-19 and England Lions representative who can also keep wickets.

He has played 100 first class matches and 72 List A matches, as well as 77 career T20 matches where he has a career strike-rate of 130.

An English junior hockey player, this will be his first BBL stint.

Heat coach Johan Botha said he was very pleased to secure three international recruits which will have full availability.

It is important to keep a squad together and we're very pleased to have 'Tall Paul' back

— Johan Botha, Head Coach

"Col Munro is just a great fella to have around and we have had Tom Alsop on our radar over the past 18 months, so excellent to secure the players we were looking at," Botha said.

The Heat had picks 6, 14, 19, 30 in today’s BBL Draft with last season’s top order bat and captain Colin Munro recruited as a pre-draft signing for two years. He was taken in the first round of the Draft as a Platinum signing.

Walter was taken in the second round.
