The Brisbane Heat have gone west as they enter a vital phase in the Weber Women’s Big Bash League.
BIG WEEK FOR HEAT | Perth Games Lead Into Gabba Smash
The Heat lost its first game of the WBBL on Saturday in Melbourne when they fell to the Hobart Hurricanes which completed a record chase in the final over of the game.
The squad flew to Perth yesterday to prepare for matches tomorrow (v Scorchers) and Sydney Thunder (Thursday) at the WACA before heading back to Brisbane on Friday ahead of Saturday's Gabba Smash against the Adelaide Strikers.
The WBBL Technical committee has approved the inclusion of Western Suburbs allrounder Lily Bassingthwaighte in the Heat squad for tomorrow night, replacing Lucy Hamilton who has Year 12 exams in Bundaberg this week.
The Australian Under-19 representative, who is also in the throes of completing her Year 12 exams, will replace Hamilton for the two matches in Perth this week.
The 17-year-old was in action for Brisbane in the warm-up Spring T20 Challenge, where she played six matches.
Bassingthwaighte and fellow teen Lucy Bourke would make their WBBL debuts tomorrow if included in the starting XI against Perth.
Thursday’s clash with the Sydney Thunder will be the first in this season’s Road Safety Cup series.
The Road Safety Cup is contested between the two clubs annually in the WBBL and BBL, to promote their respective partnerships with NSW and Queensland road safety agencies and marking their shared vision of zero being the only acceptable number of fatalities on the roads each year.
The Heat will aim to bring momentum from this week’s matches into Saturday’s historic Gabba match in Brisbane.
The Heat will take on the Adelaide Strikers as the first stand-alone WBBL fixture to be played in prime time, under lights at Queensland’s traditional home of cricket.
The Gabba Smash presented by Ward, is a repeat of last year's WBBL grand final thriller, won in the final over by the Strikers at the Adelaide Oval.
Star Australian DJ duo Kinder will light up the Gabba as part of the Weber WBBL|10 Stadium Series, with the dance sensations to perform an electrifying show.
Tomorrow’s match will be streamed through KAYO and broadcast on FOX Cricket, with play underway from 7.10pm QLD time.
