HEAT SECURE JOHNSON | Quick Signs Through To 2028

The Brisbane Heat will head into next week’s KFC Big Bash League secure in the knowledge that pace spearhead Spencer Johnson will have a zeal for teal until 2028.

The Heat announced today that the left-arm quick, the player of the final in the Heat’s championship victory last season, had extended his current deal for a further two years.

The latest contract extension with Brisbane will stretch that commitment until BBL|17 in 2028.

The South Australian-born Johnson, famously signed from the KFC T20 Max competition at the start of BBL|12 after catching the eye playing for Redlands, initially had his original two-year contract extended until the end of BBL|15 in 2026.

As vividly portrayed in the new documentary REIGNITE: A Brisbane Heat Story, the relatively unknown Johnson made an immediate impact for the Heat, putting behind him an injury-wracked career in South Australia.

His efforts in helping the Heat start their remarkable BBL|12 winning streak, that finished in heart-breaking circumstances in the Final against Perth, saw him become hot property.

He has enjoyed a meteoric rise since his first Heat contract, going on to play for Australia and secure T20 playing deals in the Indian Premier League, The 100 and Major League Cricket.

Brisbane Heat CEO Terry Svenson welcomed the confirmation that the popular paceman would continue with the Heat.

“Spencer is a firm fan favourite and it’s been an absolute pleasure to witness his development as a player and a person,’’ he said.

“We greatly value his commitment to the Heat and are delighted he will have the chance to continue to showcase his skills and grow his popularity even more with the fans.”

Johnson will be available to media this morning at 9am as part of the Heat open media session on Level 3 of the National Cricket Centre.

The Heat will take on the Melbourne Stars at the MCG to open their season on Wednesday with their first home game against the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday 22 December at the Gabba.
