DRAFT PICKS SECURED

Brisbane Heat fans will know the breakdown of the club’s international playing talent earlier than ever with the unveiling today of the Big Bash Draft order and date.

The Draft will be held on Thursday 19 June, and today’s Draft Lottery announcement by Cricket Australia will provide clubs with their position for the all-important player picks.

The Heat will have first look at the elite international talent available in the KFC BBL|15 Draft after drawing the coveted Pick One in the draft lottery.

The WBBL Heat, which finished as runners-up for the second season in a row, drew eighth pick in the WBBL draft.

The Heat have a multi-year contract with New Zealand batter Colin Munro for BBL|15, and South African allrounder Nadine de Klerk for WBBL|10.

Clubs must select their pre-signed international players in their salary band and then can retain one other overseas player with a draft pick.

Their international players who could be eligible for retention include Paul Walter, Tom Banton and Tom Alsop in the BBL and Jemimah Rodrigues, Shikha Pandey and Lauren Winfield-Hill in the WBBL.

The Lottery determines the order of selections in Rounds One, Two and Four of the Draft. Round Three is conducted in reverse order.

The Heat will have BBL picks at 1, 9, 24 and 25 and WBBL picks at 8, 16, 17 and 32.

The Draft will be held in Melbourne at the end of June, two months earlier than previous Player Draft events, with the overseas player nominations portal opening on 28 April.

The BBL|15 Draft order is:

1.    Brisbane Heat
2.    Adelaide Strikers
3.    Melbourne Renegades
4.    Perth Scorchers
5.    Hobart Hurricanes
6.    Sydney Sixers
7.    Melbourne Stars
8.    Sydney Thunder

The WBBL|11 Draft order is:
1.    Sydney Sixers
2.    Adelaide Strikers
3.    Melbourne Stars
4.    Perth Scorchers
5.    Hobart Hurricanes
6.    Sydney Thunder
7.    Melbourne Renegades
8.    Brisbane Heat

Both the WBBL|10 and BBL|14 Draft Lotteries were conducted via two draws. Picks 1-4 for each Draft were drawn from teams that did not participate in last season’s Finals, with Finalists then drawn for Picks 5-8.

Clubs may select up to four overseas players in the Draft.

This is inclusive of any pre-signed, multi-year international player – these players must be allocated to a Draft pick during the event, commensurate with the player’s salary band.

The fourth player selected becomes the club’s first overseas replacement player.

The Draft Lotteries were conducted by TPAL Australia in the presence of Club General Managers and League officials.
