Brisbane Heat newcomer Sarah Glenn is ready for one of the biggest current challenges in world cricket tomorrow when she will be one of three likely Weber Women’s Big Bash League debutants for the club.
Squad Set for Opening Match Against the Gades
Glenn, signed as an International Replacement Player for New Zealand allrounder Amelia Kerr, has spent her first few days in Brisbane planning for an encounter with in-form West Indian allrounder Hayley Matthews.
Matthews, who will captain the Melbourne Renegades in tomorrow’s opening game for the Heat at CitiPower Centre in Melbourne, recently dominated T20I series against Australia.
The 25-year-old West Indian skipper hammered 310 runs off 178 balls in the three Twenty20s before injury intervened.
Glenn, who spoke with media prior to the Heat’s departure for Melbourne this morning, believes she will be equal to the task presented to her for tomorrow’s match that gets underway at 2pm Queensland time.
Glenn, 24, is the ICC’s fifth ranked women’s T20 International bowler who took 11 wickets for the London Spirit in the recent women’s Hundred series in the UK where she was coached by Heat head coach Ashley Noffke.
Glenn, who also represented England in hockey at youth level, is one of three anticipated debutants tomorrow along with experienced South African recruit Mignon du Preez and recent English T20 debutant Bess Heath.
It will be her second stint in the WBBL, playing for the Perth Scorchers in 2020–21, claiming 17 wickets with an economy rate of 6.25, ending the tournament as her side's leading wicket-taker.
The Heat has named a squad of 14-players for its three-match away series to start the WBBL, with batter Laura Harris continuing to recover from a calf strain that saw her miss Queensland’s most recent WNCL games earlier this month.
Fans in Australia will be able to watch all 59 matches live and free on either the Seven Network or cricket.com.au.
Of the 59 matches, 24 will be televised on free-to-air on Seven and simulcast on Foxtel and Kayo, while the remaining 35 games will be shown on Foxtel and Kayo Sports and also live streamed for free on cricket.com.au.
Meanwhile, ABC Radio will provide ball-by-ball commentary of games throughout the regular season.
The Heat play the Scorchers at North Sydney Oval on Sunday and meet the Sydney Sixers at the same venue on Tuesday before returning to Brisbane.
