JUNIOR CRICKET CLUB: Rockhampton Brothers Cricket Club
Jess Jonassen, known to many as 'JJ', is the Heat's golden girl from Rockhampton in Central Queensland.
A star all-rounder for the Brisbane Heat and Queensland Fire, Jess is instrumental to the success of the Heat as captain of the team.
As a kid, JJ's Dad played a special part in encouraging her to give cricket a go, beginning with indoor cricket, then school and club cricket. In fact, Jess was the first girl ever to play for her primary school!
Outside of cricket, Jess loves playing the guitar and taking her French Bulldogs Alfie & Freddie for walks and coffee runs with her partner Sarah. Not only is Jess a bit of a book-worm, but she's also book-smart having graduated from Griffith University with a Law Degree. True JJ fans will know she is a massive supporter of the Western Bulldogs AFL team and loves spotting ladybugs in nature. Keep an eye out this season to see Jess wearing her lucky ladybug socks, which help her play at her very best on game day!
Meet Jess in person this season at the WBBL Heat home games in Mackay and Brisbane.

We acknowledge and pay respect to our First Nations people and Traditional Custodians of the land and waters where we are privileged to live, work and play. We recognise and celebrate their spiritual and ongoing connection to culture and country. We respectfully acknowledge all elders past, present and emerging as we continue to cherish shared wisdom and grow with their guidance as we walk together toward a connected country.
Brisbane Heat’s indigenous artwork was collaboratively designed by WBBL player and proud Kunja woman Mikayla Hinkley and Brisbane Indigenous artist, Delores McDonald (“Aunty Delly”).
The centre circle represents the Gabba, alongside other water holes which used to be near the ground. 87 black strokes on red earth represent the wickets taken by Aboriginal great, Eddie Gilbert who played 23 games for Queensland.
